Buckley-Sartwelle Scholarship

 

Note that eligibility for this scholarship is limited to Mechanical Engineering students who are juniors in the 2024/25 academic year (plan to graduate in AY 2025/26).  The amount of the scholarship, to be provided in the 2024/25 academic year, will be at least 30% of the Rice tuition for full-time undergraduate students in that year.  Given the size of the scholarship, distinguishing yourself from other applications through your responses to the application requirements below are critical and will be examined carefully by the REA Grants & Awards committee members.

 

Please provide the following:

 

(1)   A 1-2 page curriculum vitae, including GPA

(2)   A written document of no more than two pages (single spaced, standard margins) specifically stating

a.     Your reasons for pursuing an education in mechanical engineering

b.     What you expect to achieve in your chosen field

c.     What path you expect your career as a mechanical engineer to take following graduation from Rice

d.     Your understanding of personal and professional responsibilities

e.     Your understanding of the meaning and practice of good ethics

f.      Your ability to communicate well and how you have demonstrated that ability

g.     Any additional information about your attributes that will assist in the evaluation of your application

(3)   A letter of support from a full-time faculty member in Mechanical Engineering who has taught you in a class, mentored you in a research or design project, or served as your academic advisor
